Treasure Map Swab the deck Shooth the Cannon walk the plank Swim to Shore pirate Talk Like A Pirate Day TLAPD

Check out the write up here

Here's the great Treasure Map we used. I displayed this pirate map on the smartboard for directions of motor activities to do on "Talk Like A Pirate Day", Sept 19th.

Here are the activities on the map:

Swab the deck: Students use a mop or broom to sweep a small ball through a maze of blocks. This activity requires good motor planning and control to navigate the ball through the maze.

Shoot the Cannon: Stickies with various letters are posted on a wall. Students used a weighted ball (or any larger ball) to try to hit the letters in their name. This activity can also be done with spelling words.  This works on spelling, letter recognition, and motor planning / coordination.

Walk the Plank: We borrowed a balance beam and a crash pad form the OT PT room. Students walked the beam and jumped into the crash pad to swim. This activities requires focus and balance.

Swim: We used a ball pit to have student "swim" in the balls. This works on bilateral movement and sensory.

X marks the spot: The students then went to the sandbox (or the playground) to dig for buried treasure! (Beads, rings, small pirate toys, gold coins, etc.) It was such a fun day!!!

Copies were given out at the end for students to tell their parents about their day.
