Viola Desmond Viola Desmond was a Canadian Her business did very well. People enjoyed going to her salon. ON one fine sunny day She went for a drive in her car. The Car STOPPED Running_ She had to go see a Mechanic. He said the fix would take a long time. So she decided to go see a movie. Viola got to the movie theater and bought a ticket. She went inside the movie theater. She found a seat she liked. But the seat was in the white section. Viola was told to sit in the black section. Viola was comfortable where she sat and could see well. Viola offered to pay more money to keep her seat. She wanted the ticket for a good seat. The worker at the movies said NO. The worker told her to go upstairs. Avoiding an argument_ Viola sat still. She was mad that she was being asked to sit upstairs. The movie theater called the police. They said she had broken the Law. She had to spend the night in jail. The judge told her she was wrong. She had to pay money for breaking the rules. Viola went back to her hometown and told her friends. Viola Desmond told the people of her hometown that segregation laws were WRONG. It is ok to look different from other people. Friends can be all shapes_ sizes and colours. People get along even though they look different. Groups of people fought the laws that separate one from another. Viola Desmond eventually had her name and face put on the $10.00 bill Viola Desmond is a Canadian Hero.
